Here are 3 generally accepted reasons why having a will should be the foundation of your wealth plan:
1️⃣ 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝. There is nowhere to hide from the tough questions you are avoiding about your money, but it will feel so much better when it is done! We promise.
2️⃣ 𝐃𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐬. Some ‘fun’ things to look forward to when dying without a will: fighting amongst siblings, long delays in processing the estate, the government controlling the process, having to hire a lawyer to sort it all out, and much more! Not having you around will be hard enough for your family, at least make the admin easy on them.
3️⃣ 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 (𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲) 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲. You can do for dirt cheap online if you like, but personally I would recommend getting a lawyer to do it. Between $800 and $1,500 is a reasonable expectation for six documents; will, power of attorney (money decision power) and personal directive (who calls the shots if you’re in a coma) for two people.
