Golf is a Season. RRSP is not.
Aug 26, 2021Golf is a Season. RRSP is not. And a wonderful season it is! I love golf nearly as much as I do the Lakers and my family, but I digress...
RRSP season is not a 'thing', or at least it shouldn't be. Here's why โคต๏ธ
I recommend investing monthly or bi-weekly – whatever matches how you get paid into your RRSP instead of a lump sum contribution in the spring.
โ๏ธ1. Your money is working for you all year, you get a full extra 12-months of the magic of compounding interest;โฃ
โ๏ธ2. You forget about it. It becomes Netflix, car insurance, or any other ‘expense’ that you have on auto-pilot. Pay yourself first, right?โฃ
โ๏ธ3. You won't be tempted to not make the contribution! I mean, not that I'm speaking from personal experience or anything, but given the choice of buying mutual funds or a new putter in the spring is not a decision any golfer should put themselves in. Do the responsible thing year round so you can get the $450 putter you want (and know will shave at least three strokes off of your game).
RRSP contributions should be a part of your plan, NOT a reactionary measure. I'll say it a second time for the people in the back ๐ฃ๐ฃ๐ฃ RRSP contributions should be a part of your plan, NOT a reactionary measure.
